Henrico

More than 130 Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) students earned Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards last month for their outstanding artistic and literary creativity. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the largest national annual assessment of creativity among secondary students in the United States. Nationwide, 250,000 submissions are reviewed, including drawing, painting, photography, dramatic script, short story, poetry and sculpture. As a region, Henrico County competed against Chesterfield, Hanover, Goochland, Powhatan Counties and Richmond City students.

Three HCPS students were awarded Gold Key Awards, the highest recognition a body of work can receive. As Gold Key winners, Deep Run student Jeanne Howe, and Moody students Katelyn Hebel and Cynthia Andrianjatovo will now go on to compete on the national level. Howe and Hebel also won the prestigious American Visions and Voices Awards given to a select group of Gold Key recipients named “Best in Show.” Howe and Hebel are two of only ten students, regionally, to whom this honor was awarded.
